Facsimile MIB Project

Abstract

This document defines managed objects for an SNMP Management Information Base (MIB) to provide for the management of the facsimile portion of a multifunction device. A full-featured multifunction environment includes functions such as a Printer, Scanner, Facsimile, and Copier. Several MIB documents are required to completely define the entire set of managed objects appropriate for these systems.

The Fax MIB augments the Modem MIB [RFC1696] to provide a set of SNMP objects unique to a fax modem. The Modem MIB must be included to define those objects that are common to both fax modems and data modems. The MFP Reference Model [MFP-MIB] defines the relationship amongst the various document that are employed to completely define an MFP that utilizes the Fax MIB and which may also include other functions. For example, in addition to managed objects defined below, it is appropriate to utilize the Printer MIB document [RFC1759] for definitions of the alert table groups and localization groups. Also, logging of connection information is defined by the Accounting MIB [RFC2513].
